What Your Eyes See Can Affect Your Heart

In 2010, Dr. Porter Speakman made a quick drop by visit to Samaritan’s Place (SP) during a trip to the Philippines. Even though it was a short visit, he was able to truly see firsthand the wonderful ministry happening at SP. Immediately, he became a dear friend of SP Founders Marc and Marilen Morris, and more importantly a Friend of SP (FSP).

In 2015, Dr. Speakman, one of America’s leading missions leaders, founded a new organization called Missions2Go. Known as M2Go for short, Missions2Go has been recruiting and sending volunteers to Samaritan’s Place for its Summer of Service (SOS) program the last two years.

The M2Go volunteers have left indelible prints in the hearts of all Samaritans Place. Bravely leaving their comfort zones, these well-trained and prepared volunteers have helped SP staff in caring for and tutoring the children on a daily basis each summer.

Getting To Know Dr. Porter Speakman

In 1998, Dr. Speakman joined the pastoral staff of a large church in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he served as the missions pastor for 23 years. There, he developed and implemented a large short-term missions program. His leadership impact resulted in recruiting, organizing, training and sending over 250 short-term mission teams and mobilized more than 2,600 people to serve in 38 countries.

He and his lovely wife Joanne have personally led more than 12 youth mission teams to South America and adult mission groups to the Middle East. The couple has also traveled to more than 60 countries to build and maintain relationships with their international partners, including churches, missionaries, and pastors.

Thus, Dr. Speakman has been a major catalyst in encouraging and assisting young men and women to fulfill a calling in missions. It was a natural for him to establish and operate Missions 2 Go, an organization dedicated to assisting churches fulfill their role in the Great Commission. M2Go also mobilizes young people for service by providing opportunities for them to serve as interns with international ministries around the world.
